چکیده

The cellular constituents of the innate defense system in the intestine include epithelial cells, goblet cells, dendritic cells and macrophages. The front line of this system is the mucous layer containing goblet cells which secrete mucin [6,7]. The response of goblet cells was observed in several intestinal infections due to bacteria, viruses and parasites. Decreases number of goblets cells (hyperplasia) was observed in some parasitic infections like helminthes [8,9] but hypoplasia of these cells were observed in coccidial infection with Eimeria [10,11].

Altered immune responses in mice with concomitant Schistosoma mansoni and Plasmodium chabaudi infections.

Mixed parasitic infections are common in many parts of the world. However, little is known about how concurrent infections affect the immunity to and/or pathogenesis of each other. Protection and elimination of blood-stage Plasmodium chabaudi chabaudi AS in resistant mice are characterized by a sequential activation of CD4(+) Th1 and Th2 cells. The patent egg-laying stage of the murine model of...

Expression of non-TLR pattern recognition receptors in the spleen of BALB/c mice infected with Plasmodium yoelii and Plasmodium chabaudi chabaudi AS.

The spleen plays a crucial role in the development of immunity to malaria, but the role of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) in splenic effector cells during malaria infection is poorly understood. In the present study, we analysed the expression of selected PRRs in splenic effector cells from BALB/c mice infected with the lethal and non-lethal Plasmodium yoelii strains 17XL and 17X, respect...

Plasmodium Infection Promotes Genomic Instability and AID-Dependent B Cell Lymphoma

Chronic infection with Plasmodium falciparum was epidemiologically associated with endemic Burkitt's lymphoma, a mature B cell cancer characterized by chromosome translocation between the c-myc oncogene and Igh, over 50 years ago. Whether infection promotes B cell lymphoma, and if so by which mechanism, remains unknown. To investigate the relationship between parasitic disease and lymphomagenes...

Plasmodium chabaudi infection induces AID expression in transitional and marginal zone B cells

INTRODUCTION Endemic Burkitt's lymphoma (eBL) is associated with Epstein-Barr virus and repeated malaria infections. A defining feature of eBL is the translocation of the c-myc oncogene to the control of the immunoglobulin promoter. Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) has been shown to be critical for this translocation. Malaria infection induces AID in germinal center B cells, but whet...

Clinical Pharmacology of the Antimalarial Chloroquine in Children and Their Mothers

Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malariae, and Plasmodium knowlesi are the parasites that infect humans. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax cause most of the malarial infections worldwide. Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malariae, and Plasmodium knowlesi are susceptible to chloroquine. Chloroquine was the world's most widely used antim...
